Basnahira Cricket Dundee vs Kandurata Warriors Preview – SLPL 2012

It is the first day of the first ever Sri Lankan Premier League, the squads are looking very balanced from all the teams and should be a very interesting tournament. Basnahira Cricket Dundee and the Kandurata Warriors will take part in the 2nd match of the 2012 tournament as they hope for a good start taking the points.

Match Information :

August 11, Colombo
Starting Time: 2000 Local Time (1430 GMT Time)

Key Contest:

Saeed Ajmal vs Tilkaratne Dilshan

Saeed Ajmal continues to get better and better as the years go on, he is has come out of no where in the last few years to be arguably the best spinner currently playing the great game. Saeed will need to step up in the early stages of the tournament as Kumar Sangakkara will not be fit. Tilkaratne Dilshan has not been in the greatest of form but heading back to Sri Lanka he will feel more confident as the pitches are less challenging then where he has been playing recently. The 35 year old isn’t know for consistency in the shortest format of the game but when he gets going he is very hard to stop.

Team News:

Kumar Sangakkara will be missing from Kandurata’s XI as he is ruled out for a few weeks which will mean the other big players will need to step up. Saeed Ajmal should be a guaranteed starter as he is so dangerous on spin friendlypitches. Thisara Perera who has been in good form with the ball will be in the team but a concern for the Warriors is the depth of their batting. Dane Vilas is very much an unknown but a strike rate of 130+ in T20′s is good and he can also keep wicket which would be a boost. Albie Morkel is another explosive batsman who can do damage with the bat and ball and he should be an influential figure in this team.

TM Dilshan will lead the team out but same with their opposition the batting is lacking a bit. Clint Mckay should be in the XI as he has proven himself in the Australian outfit this year and looks to be gaining confidence after every ball he bowls. Marlon Samuels can be an explosive batsman when he wants to be and their should be a place for him. Daniel Smith who is well known for scoring 179 in a ODI match in Australia could well be in a surprise and be gifted a chance to prove his worth overseas while Dirk Nannes or Tim Southee could fight it out for the other bowling spot.
