Australia Under-19s beat England Under-19s by 6 wickets 2012

Australia start with a six-wicket thumping of England in a Group A tie at the Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville.

Chasing 144 to win, Travis Head led the Aussie chase with his 57 not out as the hosts got over the line in the 36th over. They however made a mess of their chase as both openers Cameron Bancroft (2) and Jimmy Peirson (0) got out without any real contribution. Jamie Overton saw the back of Bancroft, while Reece Topley sent Peirson back.

The wickets of Meyrick Buchanan (16) and Kurtis Patterson (19) in quick succession further made things bleak for them. At one time, the Aussies were gasping for breath at 54 for 4. But Head and William Bosisto (35) kept their nerves to add an unbeaten 93 to see their team home.

Earlier, after being put into bat, the English team put up a bad batting performance, skittling for 143 in 38.3 overs. Apart from Craig Overton (35 off 81 balls) none of their batsmen could hang in there. For Australia, medium pacer Gurinder Sandhu and offspinner Ashton Turner picked up three wickets each. Joel Paris and Mark Steketee chipped in with two wickets each.

Brief scores:
England 143 all out in 38.3 overs (C Overton 35, Ball 20 not out; Sandhu 3 for 27, Turner 3 for 30)
Australia 147 for 4 in 35.1 overs (Head 57 not out; J Overton 2 for 34)
